About the museum
The museum is named after General Serret, who commanded the fighting at the Hartmannswillerkopf in 1915. It is housed over three floors in the former courthouse of Saint-Amarin.
Its main collections are devoted to the First World War on the Vosges front, the Resistance in Alsace during the Second World War and the liberation of the valley in 1944–1945. Other rooms present the history of the Thur valley, from Roman traces to the Industrial Revolution, including the textile industry and the Wildenstein glassworks, founded in 1699, as well as seals and coins from Alsace and religious objects from the 15th to the 19th century.
Le Grenier evokes vanished trades and life in earlier times: a shoemaker, a dentist, a clog maker and the classroom of a schoolteacher from before 1914. Several temporary exhibitions are held over the course of the year.
