About the museum

The museum is housed in the wooden roundhouse of the Longueville depot, near Provins, built by the former Compagnie de l'Est. It received its first steam locomotives in 1911, and the last steam locomotive left the depot in 1966. The building has been restored.

AJECTA (Association de Jeunes pour l'Entretien et la Conservation des Trains d'Autrefois) was founded in 1968 by rolling stock enthusiasts. It aims to preserve France's railway heritage and also runs steam trains on the national rail network.

The collection includes 14 steam locomotives and nearly 100 other vehicles, which tell the story of French railways from the early 19th century to the 1950s. The oldest steam locomotive is a 040 from the Compagnie du Nord, built in 1866, later used in a sugar refinery until 1960.

The locomotives are arranged in a circle around the turntable in front of the roundhouse. Volunteers welcome visitors, hand out a small guide and answer questions about railway history and steam traction.
