About the museum
The ecomuseum occupies a former lime kiln from the early 20th century at the entrance to the village of Volx, on the edge of the Luberon. The Brémond fils company, long active in the olive sector in Provence and across the Mediterranean, decided to give new life to the site, which reopened to the public in April 2024.
The visit relies on audiovisual, interactive and sensory displays. It covers the biology and mythology of the olive tree, traditional soap-making, oil used as lamp fuel, pruning, harvesting and olive oil production. A large screen shows pickers in Provence, Spain, Greece, Tunisia and Lebanon. Display cases bring together objects linked to the tree's past and present culture.
A fine-food shop run by Brémond fils adjoins the museum and offers, among other things, olive oils, vinegars, confectionery and herbal teas.
