About the museum
The then municipality of Kayna had the equipment house on Kirchplatz built for its fire brigade in 1910; in 1969 it was extended by a parking bay, and until 1994 it served as a depot for vehicles and equipment. After the brigade moved to a new equipment house on Bahnhofstraße, the members decided to renovate the old building themselves and to set up a small museum in it, which opened in 1997.
The volunteer-run collection shows historic firefighting equipment. The upkeep of the building and exhibits lies largely with the firefighters themselves, who, among other things, renovated the roof in 2015 in several hundred hours of work and later renewed the plinth, façade and doors.
