Moritzburg Castle on the White Elster is an expression of 17th-century Baroque court culture in Central Germany. It consists of the three-winged main building, the Gothic castle church of St. Peter and Paul, the Baroque gatehouse and several outbuildings, surrounded by a moat and the castle park.
Since 1932 the castle has housed the Museum of the City of Zeitz. It presents its collections, which are of supra-regional importance, in seven permanent exhibitions, including the German Pram Museum, the living quarters of the ducal family, furniture and applied arts, and the medieval history of the town.
In the gatehouse, the Art and Museum Education Centre "Johannes Lebek" works with historical hand presses. Under the roof of the Moritzburg are also the Stiftsbibliothek (foundation library), the city archive and the Lutheridenbibliothek.
