About the museum
The Archäologische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Heidekreis was founded in 1976. Its aim is to research prehistory and early history and to support state monument conservation. Since 2001 the association has been based in the former forester's house from the 17th century, the oldest residential building in Bad Fallingbostel; the town provides it rent-free.
On the ground floor, the association has shown an exhibition since May 2002, with prehistoric, historical and geological sections. The archaeological finds on display come exclusively from the Heidekreis area. The apartments on the upper floor house a small library, offices and a restoration workshop; below are the finds storage and a lecture room.
The permanent exhibition "Spuren der Vergangenheit. Archäologie in der Region" (Traces of the Past. Archaeology in the Region) shows, among other things, the jewelry of the "Braut aus Ungarn" (Bride from Hungary), found in Fallingbostel in 1904 and considered a special feature of the early Bronze Age in the region. A museum shop offers Stone Age tools, replicas and literature.
