About the museum
The Düshorn village museum was officially opened on March 30, 2003, with an exhibition on the life and work of the Düshorn composer Ludwig Rahlfs. It is run by an association that wants to collect, care for, preserve and show historic rural cultural heritage.
The exhibition is housed in the old village school from 1850. There, a kitchen, a "gute Stube" (best parlor) and a sleeping room have been furnished with everyday objects that vividly show life about a hundred years ago. A tour also includes a wheelwright's workshop, a laundry room and old beekeeping equipment. On the neighboring Dickens farm, a stable has been converted into an exhibition hall for historic rural machines and equipment; this also includes a spinning and weaving room.
The museum also includes an orchard meadow at the edge of the village, where 68 standard fruit trees of old varieties were planted at the end of 1999 and supplemented by ten espalier fruit trees in 2002. Each year the association offers its members and friends an exhibition with a changing theme, a museum outing, the event "Platt im Café" and a museum festival.
