About the museum
After the Second World War, more than 2,000 musical instrument makers from the Saxon-Bohemian Musikwinkel found a new home in Bubenreuth. The violin makers' settlement (Geigenbauersiedlung) was built in the then small town, and Bubenreuth became a center of string instrument making in Europe.
In 1979 the municipality opened a permanent exhibition of musical instruments and components in the town hall, suggested by master guitar maker Gerold Karl Hannabach. In 2009 the rooms had to be cleared because of renovation work. Afterwards, committed citizens founded the Museumsverein Bubenreutheum e.V. (museum association).
On July 24, 2010, the association opened the new permanent exhibition "Vision Bubenreutheum. Musik und Integration". On about 80 square meters it shows a violin-making workshop, historical instruments and documents on the reception of newcomers. Two films tell the story of integration and of how an instrument is made.
