About the museum
The brick station building was built at the beginning of the 20th century as a stop on the newly built Jagsttalbahn. The narrow-gauge railway carried sugar beets and timber and also took schoolchildren to lessons and back home. Due to costs, operations were permanently discontinued in 1988.
Afterwards the station fell increasingly into disrepair. In 2013, students of European Ethnology from Würzburg took on its restoration as a master's project, and in 2014 the building opened as a museum.
The permanent exhibition tells the story of life with the Jagsttalbahn and includes the former office and work room of the station master, which visitors can enter from behind the ticket counter. It also covers the local and transport history of Widdern. In two rooms on the upper floor, exhibitions on cultural, historical, and artistic themes change about every three months.
