About the museum
The Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Bahnpost e. V. was founded in 1973 by a circle of collectors and former railway postal workers. When the last railway mail services in Germany ended in 1997, the association bought two railway mail cars from Deutsche Post AG; in 2013 a third car came from the Museums-Eisenbahn-Club Losheim. The three cars, built in 1954, 1955, and 1967, form the Bahnpostmuseum in Losheim am See.
Two of the cars are furnished inside and recreated as if they were still in mail service; another car houses a permanent exhibition, in words and pictures, on railway mail service. The vehicles are maintained by volunteers and with donations.
Once a year, on a weekend in early August, the Bahnpost- und Dampflokfest (railway mail and steam locomotive festival) takes place in Losheim.
