About the museum
The museum is located in the Krausenhof in Vorderdietzberg, a district of the municipality of Zachenberg in the Regen district. The property is first documented in 1721; according to records of the Bavarian State Archives in Landshut, however, half of the farm, a so-called Hube (farm unit), may already have existed in the late Middle Ages. The Waldler house is thus a testament to rural building culture in the Bavarian Forest.
Since 1977 the house has served as a museum run by the costume club D'Teisnachtaler. The rooms are largely in their original state and show how a farming family, together with its farmhands, lived and worked: with a kitchen, parlor, bedrooms, and a tiled stove. Also on display are household and farm tools, as well as historic clothing.
