About the museum

Gertraud and Hans Herrmann began collecting contemporary glass more than four decades ago. This grew into a gallery in Drachselsried in the Bavarian Forest, which was initially the only year-round showcase for local and German glass artists. Gradually, well-known names from Sweden, France, the Netherlands, England, the USA, Japan, Italy, the Czech Republic and Poland were added.

Today the house presents, in a sales exhibition, glass objects, glass pictures and reverse-glass paintings by about 150 artists from around 30 countries. In the same building, a public collection of about 1,000 objects is housed, offering a cross-section from the beginnings of the studio glass movement to the present day.

For the lifetime achievement of gallery owner Hans Herrmann, the gallery received the Glasstraße Prize (Glass Road Prize) in 2004; it was also honored with the Savoir-Vivre Award and is regarded as an important part of the Glasstraße.
