About the museum

At the end of 1985, the district of Erding acquired a plot on Taufkirchener Straße in order to save historic rural buildings from the district from decay. The buildings were taken down at their original locations and rebuilt on the grounds of about two hectares. The museum opened on October 14, 1989; in the early 1990s the central farmstead was completed.

The core of the museum is a smallholder's farm from the isolated hamlet of Rindbach (municipality of St. Wolfgang) with a combined house and stable (Wohnstallhaus), a granary, a farm garden, a baking oven and a timber-frame barn (Bundwerkstadel) from Stetten. It is complemented by further buildings such as a farrier's and nail smithy from Dorfen, which was taken over together with its inventory, a wooden chapel, a garden house, a peat hut from the Erdinger Moos and an old inn skittle alley. The oldest building is a richly decorated granary from Niederneuching dating from 1581.

In 2021 a new entrance and market building was added, for which a combined house and stable from Pesenlern with a log-built parlor (Blockstube) from 1627 was relocated. The weekly farmers' market with products from the district takes place here all year round. With event days, lectures and markets, the museum is also a meeting place for the region.
