About the museum
The Eicherfreunde Forstern association was founded in 1993 with the declared goal of creating an Eicher museum in the district of Erding. Early grand plans came to nothing; later the museum was to be set up at a historic Eicher site, if at all possible. The production halls of the Südwerk in Forstern had been demolished in 2003; what remained was the former administration building of the tractor manufacturer.
In May 2008 the association moved into about 200 square meters on the ground floor there, and it opened the exhibition space on April 5, 2008. After the building passed into the possession of Egon Eicher in 2010, the basement, once a canteen, was renovated and opened as additional exhibition space in June 2011. In June 2012 the museum café was added; since then, many more guests have come.
Shown are Eicher tractors, ploughs and agricultural implements, as well as documents on the rise and decline of the company Gebrüder Eicher. The first Eicher diesel tractor was built in 1936. The museum is run by the association on a volunteer basis and is financed through membership fees, events and donations.
