About the museum
Eldenburg was the ancestral seat of the Eldenburg line of the von Quitzow family, who owned the estate from 1465 to 1719 and expanded the former moated castle into a palace. The property later belonged to the von Wangenheim family. The palace was demolished in 1949; what remained were the Quitzowturm (Quitzow Tower), a late medieval plastered building that once served as a dungeon, and the tithe granary.
Today the preserved buildings house an exhibition of historical farm equipment and machines, along with a small library. The Quitzow Tower also contains the "Quitzowstuhl", a torture device around which many legends have grown.
