About the museum
The idea for a local history museum in Lammersdorf arose in 1983, when the teacher H. Jürgen Siebertz began collecting surviving farm implements. Within a few months hundreds of items had come together, initially stored in a cellar and a shed. The Verein für Heimatgeschichte und Dorfkultur Lammersdorf, founded for this purpose, furnished a vacant farmhouse from 1889 and opened the museum in September 1984 at a village festival.
The house sees itself as the local history museum of the Monschau region and shows the everyday life of Eifel farming families between about 1850 and 1930. Living rooms, a cowshed with a workshop, and a barn are furnished without display cases or barriers, creating the impression that the residents have only just stepped out. Themes such as the path from grain to bread, from flax to linen or from sheep to wool illustrate the laborious work.
Restored large machinery stands in the outdoor area, and a herb garden complements the ensemble. The museum is run by volunteers and financed through membership fees, donations and events; in 2021 the NRW-Stiftung pledged a grant for the renovation of the half-timbering and roof as well as for improving the building's energy efficiency.
