About the museum
The farm museum goes back to the private collection of the Brötje family. Walter Brötje spent decades gathering old tools from farming and housekeeping on farms in the area and restoring them. Between 1988 and 1990 the family converted the buildings into a museum almost entirely through their own labor; it opened in 1990.
The site is the farm "Jan Pastor sin Hus" from 1666, formerly known as the Fabriciushof. Local tradition named it after the pastor Johannes Fabricius, who lived there. After the founder died in 2006, his son Detlef continued the work; the museum is run privately, without public funding.
Across about 2,000 square meters in two barns, side rooms and a hall, machines and equipment from the 19th and 20th centuries are on display, including a Lanz Bulldog, early washing machines and a complete cobbler's workshop. Unlike in many museums, most exhibits may be touched and tried out.
