The house on Hauptstraße was built in 1876 as a Brinksitzerstelle (small farmstead): a master blacksmith lived here and ran a small farm on the side. The smithy operated until 1936; afterwards a bicycle and motorcycle workshop, a shoemaker's, a driving school and, from 1951, a car workshop with a small petrol station were set up in the building. In the 1960s the writer Winfried von Wedel-Parlow and his wife, a pharmacist, bought the house and converted it into a residence.
In 1991 the property passed by will to the municipality of Wiefelstede, on condition that a local history museum be established. The Verein Heimatmuseum Wiefelstede e. V., founded in 1992, took over operations. In the main building, the association shows a gallery of changing exhibitions on cultural and everyday history and regional art.
At the rear of the property an open-air museum gradually developed: a bakery in 1995, a building with a wheelwright's workshop, joinery and smithy in 1999, from 2014 a 1625 Spieker (granary) with a colonial goods shop, followed by a new building with a hairdressing salon and a shoemaker's workshop. The open-air museum opened in 2019 with a Remise (carriage shed). In 2022/23 an extension replaced the old pigsty; it serves as an event room and for weddings.
