About the museum
The Staudenhaus originally stood in Döpshofen, where it belonged to a village forge. When it was to be demolished in 1974, the then district heritage officer Hermann Endrös saved the last thatched house in the region. The building was dismantled and has stood since 1980 on the bank of the Schwarzach in Oberschönenfeld, where it is open as a farm museum.
The fully furnished house is a small-farm, middle-stable building of the "Staudenhaus" type. It shows the life of the residents of a cottager's homestead, as was typical of the Stauden landscape southwest of Augsburg. After an emergency covering in 2021, the roof received new thatch in 2025, because the rye straw used previously is no longer available as a building material.
The museum is managed by the Heimatverein for the district of Augsburg. It lies on the grounds of the Museum Oberschönenfeld but is a separate house with its own opening hours, and it can be visited with a combined ticket together with the Volkskundemuseum (folk museum).
