About the museum
After the then independent market town of Göggingen assumed sponsorship in 1954 for the Germans expelled from the town and district of Neudek, a local history collection was established the same year and housed in the former Jahnschule.
When Göggingen was incorporated into Augsburg in 1972, the city of Augsburg also took over the sponsorship. In 1984 it provided new rooms in the Schubertschule for the collection, which had grown in the meantime.
The museum shows more than 3,000 objects on the economic and cultural life of the German population in Neudek from around 1880 until the expulsion in 1945: traditional costumes and uniforms, household goods, religious folk art and crafts. Particular focuses are bobbin lace with accessories as well as glassware and porcelain. An archive and around 5,000 photographs complement the collection.
