Bayerisches Polizeimuseum
The central museum of Bavarian police history since 1918, housed in the Triva fortress tower in Ingolstadt's Klenzepark.
About the museum
The Bayerisches Polizeimuseum (Bavarian Police Museum) is a branch of the Bayerisches Armeemuseum and opened on December 19, 2011, as the central museum of the Bavarian police. It was preceded by special exhibitions on police history, including a 2006/07 show marking 60 years of police in Bavaria, which drew great interest.
The museum is housed in the Turm Triva, a round building of Ingolstadt's Neoclassical state fortress. It was built between 1828 and 1841 at the same time as the neighboring Reduit Tilly, is named after the Bavarian war minister Johann Nepomuk von Triva, and received its exterior design from plans by Leo von Klenze.
The exhibition on the first floor spans about a hundred years: from the revolution of 1918/19 through the role of the police under National Socialism and border security during the Cold War to the operations during the protests against the Wackersdorf nuclear reprocessing plant in the 1980s.
On display are uniforms, badges, equipment, weapons, vehicles, photographs and personal documents that illustrate the organization and everyday life of the police in Bavaria.
