About the museum
The post windmill originally stood in Schöppenstedt. In 1861 a miller dismantled it there and rebuilt it on what is now Pfadfinderweg, between Kreuzheide and Kästorf. It owes its nickname “Schradersche Mühle” to the miller Gustav Schrader, who took over the business in 1921.
Grinding continued in the mill until 1969. After it was shut down, it passed into the ownership of the City of Wolfsburg, which had it restored as a technical architectural monument. Today it is a branch of the Stadtmuseum Schloss Wolfsburg. It traditionally opens on Whit Monday with accompanying activities; on other days, museum staff show visitors around the mill upon prior request.
