About the museum

The Brachttal-Museum is located in the Alte Schule (old school) in Spielberg, a district of Brachttal in the eastern Main-Kinzig district. It is run by the Museums- und Geschichtsverein Brachttal e. V. (Brachttal Museum and History Association), which operates the house on a volunteer basis and accompanies it with exhibitions, publications and events on local history.

The focus is the Wächtersbach stoneware factory (Steingutfabrik), which produced in the district of Schlierbach. On display are selected products from around 120 years, including a model of the factory made of ceramic body and works by the ceramicist Ursula Fesca. In the entrance area stands an original kitchen from the 1920s, equipped with Wächtersbach ceramics.

Over three floors the museum also shows crafts, household and furnishing items, including a shoemaker's workshop and old doll's houses. A newly designed exhibition is devoted to the Stone Age finds from the Brachttal. On the top floor there is a large model layout of the Vogelsberger Südbahn, which ran from Wächtersbach to Birstein from 1898; it includes original pieces from this railway line. On the second floor there is also a room for changing exhibitions and lectures.
