About the museum
The Hofbräuhaus Traunstein dates back to 1612 and was founded at the wish of Elector Maximilian I, who wanted the best beer brewed right here in the middle of town. For more than 125 years the Sailer family has run the business.
The brewery museum opened on April 16, 2023, at the site where the house's brewing tradition began. The brewery invested more than half a million euros, of which over €100,000 came from an EU LEADER program. The multimedia museum tells the story of more than 400 years of Bavarian brewing and inn culture, from customs and traditions to beer-tent culture.
In 2023 the house received the "Goldene BierIdee" award for its innovative concept for presenting Bavarian beer culture. The museum is visited as part of the brewery tour, which also shows the brewhouse, the open fermentation cellar and horizontal storage tanks during ongoing operations, and ends with a tasting.
