Brauereimuseum Lüneburg

Museum on beer brewing in the historic brewhouse of the Lüneburger Kronen-Brauerei from 1902 with original equipment from malt to wort.

Opening hoursAdmission from €6

About the museum

The Kronen-Brauerei is considered the oldest known brewery in Lüneburg: it is first mentioned in documents in 1485, and its master brewers have been known without a gap ever since. Of the more than 80 brewhouses the city once had, it was the only one left at its 500th anniversary.

The brewhouse, a building from 1902, is among the most striking industrial monuments in Lüneburg. When the brewery moved its production to the edge of town in 1981, the building and its technical equipment were preserved. In 1985 the brewery museum opened in it; the associated inn "Krone" still exists today, but Kronen beer is no longer served.

Since 2010 the museum has been run by the neighboring Ostpreußisches Landesmuseum (East Prussian State Museum). At the original site, malt mills, mash tun, brew kettle, and fermentation vat explain how beer was made in the 20th century from barley, hops, and water and how work was done in a brewery. The brewhouse lies in the inner courtyard of the inn, now used as a beer garden, in the middle of Lüneburg's old town not far from the square Am Sande.
