About the museum

The writer Brigitte Reimann (1933–1973) lived in Hoyerswerda from 1960 to 1968. The planned town for the workers of the nearby Schwarze Pumpe industrial combine shaped her writing and forms the backdrop of her unfinished novel "Franziska Linkerhand." Until the end of 2021, a meeting center on Brigitte-Reimann-Straße, run by the Hoyerswerda art association, commemorated her. After the association was dissolved, the center was closed.

Since then, her memory has found its place in the Brigitte-Reimann-Kabinett on the second floor of the city library named after her. The exhibition is designed as a small journey back in time to her years in Hoyerswerda. It features period furniture from the 1960s, including a typewriter and a floor lamp, as well as a digital information board on her life and photo galleries.

Visitors who want to read more will find her works and literature about her in the library, for reading and borrowing. In addition, city walks through Hoyerswerda are offered, during which quotations from her texts are read aloud at important locations.
