Opening hoursAdmission from €2.50 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The house at Schloßfreiheit 5 is located in the former castle men's settlement in front of the approach to Tangermünde Castle. It is considered the oldest surviving residential house of the town: the solid brick first floor was built around 1543 by the Krull brothers, whose portraits survive as medallions on either side of the entrance portal. The half-timbered second floor was added in the 17th century; the barrel-vaulted cellar and the forge hearth have also been preserved.

Since 1998 the town of Tangermünde has used the building as the Burgmuseum. In four rooms the history of the castle is told – from its role as a residence under Emperor Charles IV in the 14th century via the period as an Electoral Brandenburg office to its dissolution in the 19th century.

On view are, among other things, a model of the castle complex and information on the significance of the Schloßfreiheit. The house also shows special exhibitions.
