About the museum
The idea for a fire service exhibition arose in 1972 for the 100th anniversary of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Stendal (Stendal volunteer fire brigade). From the collecting passion of some firefighters, an association developed in 1984, which in 1993 turned a small fire brigade cabinet into the Landesfeuerwehrmuseum Sachsen-Anhalt (state fire service museum of Saxony-Anhalt). It is still run on a volunteer basis by the Verein Feuerwehrhistorik Stendal.
The house shows how firefighting developed in the Prussian Province of Saxony and in Anhalt, from the leather fire bucket through hand-operated and horse-drawn pumps to motor vehicles. Also shown are fire alarm and alerting technology and images of early fire protection regulations.
Special are about 43 fire trucks from 1938 to 1987, including two operational Magirus turntable ladders from 1938 and 1940, as well as special vehicles from factory, railway and mine fire brigades. The collection is continually supplemented and reworked.
