About the museum
The Swiss collector Erika Pohl-Ströher (died 2016), whose family came from the Ore Mountains and the Vogtland, assembled large collections over decades. She gave minerals on loan to the terra mineralia in Freiberg, and folk art and toys to the Manufaktur der Träume in Annaberg-Buchholz. Further holdings have been looked after since 2009 by LOPESA Sammlungs GmbH in the Depot Pohl-Ströher in Gelenau.
The depot occupies around 1,800 square metres in a historic industrial building of 1923. Displayed or stored there are, among other things, mechanical Heimat and Christmas mountains, almost 200 Christmas pyramids and ceiling spinners, a collection of around 2,500 decorative and artists' eggs, about 4,000 dolls and teddy bears, a historic doll clinic and scenes on old toy-making trades. In 2018 a collection of around 450 historic children's vehicles was added via the Pohl family foundation.
The house opened for seasonal shows, especially for the Christmas show held annually since 2010; a huge Schwibbogen (candle arch) stands on the building. Since February 2025 exhibition operations have been suspended because the exhibition areas are being redesigned.
