About the museum
The painter Dieter Franck was born on the Oberlimpurg in 1909. From 1929 onward he engaged with his time through painting in the context of late Expressionism, and as a student at the Stuttgart Academy of Art he stood out with expressive woodcuts and intensely colored nudes. National Socialist cultural policy and military service interrupted his career.
In 1950, after his return, he settled on the Oberlimpurg together with the painter Rita Brümmer and built a studio there. In the rural seclusion he developed an idiosyncratic visual language, independent of the pressure toward abstraction in postwar modernism. He lived and worked here until his death in 1980.
Since autumn 2007 his former home has been open as a museum, preserving the artistic estate with paintings, watercolors, designs, prints and drawings. The sculptor Felicitas Franck, his daughter, runs the house and curates the presentations, which are organized by phases of his work. In 2011 the association Gesellschaft Dieter Franck-Haus e.V. was founded; the house is a member of the Museum Association of Baden-Württemberg. The complex also includes the studio and a spacious, park-like garden.
