About the museum

Kunsthalle Würth is a private exhibition venue of the entrepreneur and collector Reinhold Würth. It opened in May 2001 on the site of a former brewery at the edge of Schwäbisch Hall's old town. The Danish architect Henning Larsen designed a three-story building with a façade of regional shell limestone that opens up to the old-town backdrop with large glass surfaces. The brewery's neighboring, restored brewhouse (Sudhaus) now houses a restaurant.

In just over two decades, the venue presented around 50 exhibitions, mostly drawn from the Würth Collection, one of Europe's major corporate collections. Retrospectives and thematic shows were devoted to Eduardo Chillida, Max Liebermann, Henry Moore and Edvard Munch, among others; in total, more than five million visitors came.

From 2023, the Kunsthalle was expanded according to plans by Henning Larsen. The extension adds about 600 square meters of exhibition space and creates a continuous circuit, a new entrance area with shop and café, and workshop rooms for art education. To mark its 25th anniversary, the venue reopens on October 16, 2026 – with a major retrospective of Anselm Kiefer, one of the central artists in the collection.
