About the museum
The Strötzbach double mill on the Kahl is a half-timbered house in which two separate mills worked under one roof, belonging to the Koch and Brückner families. For generations both families lived and worked wall to wall, and in places the mill mechanisms were even nested inside one another. Milling continued here until the 1970s.
Today the Brückner Mill is shown as a museum. On display are the preserved drive mechanism with a vertical shaft and iron crown wheel, grinding stones with millstones, an undershot waterwheel, and the miller's room and small workshop. The house stands for the transition from the old stone milling trade to the modern craft mill. The mill is in working order, so the milling process of earlier times can be followed; on the mill festival on May 1, grinding takes place.
