About the museum
The “Ahnenhaus” village museum is located in the village center of Pliezhausen, in a former farmhouse dating back to 1570. Two superimposed living areas with kitchen, plank-beam room and bedroom are furnished as they were about 150 years ago, so that visitors get the impression that the former residents have only just stepped out.
In the barn, the permanent exhibition shows a village shop from the 1940s, a one-room school (Zwergschule), the rare trade of the chimney mason, and a cobbler's and a tailor's workshop. Other themes are the local knitting trade and the shopping options in the villages of the municipality between 1920 and 1960. The tour also includes a bake house and a cottage garden on the museum grounds.
A volunteer working group maintains the exhibitions, the garden and the building ensemble and conveys the everyday culture of the former residents. The museum is linked to the Pliezhäuser Geschichtswerkstatt, founded in 2004 to bring the history of the village closer to the local people and keep interest in it alive.
