About the museum
The Greifenhaus in Hausen in the Forchheimer Land was built in 1836 by master carpenter Johann Ochs as a farmstead and is one of the village's most beautiful half-timbered buildings. When the house had fallen into serious disrepair and was about to be torn down, the municipality restored it and in 1993 set up the local history collection, which had been assembled in the town hall since 1969.
On about 90 square meters, the museum shows the village culture of times past: domestic culture and furniture, including chests from around 1680, a collection of historic women's traditional costumes displayed on life-size figures, a room on local history with finds from the Bronze Age, and a model of a water-lifting wheel. Another room is devoted to popular piety, with sculptures, nativity figures and above all handwritten and painted prayer books from Hausen and the surrounding area (18th and 19th centuries).
