About the museum
The building, a farmhouse typical of the region with living and farm sections, was originally to give way to a road project at Kelterplatz. When the plan was not carried out, the city of Ludwigsburg handed the property over to the Heimatverein Poppenweiler (local heritage association), which turned it into a museum after long phases of renovation carried out by members. It was first presented to the public on October 24, 1982, during a Sichelhenket (traditional harvest-end celebration).
Over three floors, the association shows everyday objects of earlier generations to look at and touch: a kitchen with a coal stove, living and bedrooms, play shops, dollhouses and toys, a Christmas room, and in the barn tools for arable and wine farming, a cooper's wagon and barrels. In the attic stand a ladder wagon and plows, and in the garden a field forge and historic boundary stones.
Later a larger garden area and an adjacent barn were added, housing a winter sports corner and a shoemaker's workshop. The Heimatverein, founded in 1979, uses the house for its club activities, events and public relations, and in 2017 the Bürgerstiftung Ludwigsburg (citizens' foundation) awarded it an honorary prize.
