About the museum
The Historische Schmiede in the Remseck district of Neckargröningen is several centuries old and still functional. The forge hearth, anvil, sledgehammers and hand hammers, various forge tongs, a workbench with vises, a fire vise, and a drill powered by three-phase current are all still present.
The building housing the workshop was extensively renovated in 2011 and 2012; the forge itself was preserved in its original condition. To mark the completion of the work, a small celebration took place on April 20, 2012, when a striking sign with a real anvil was mounted in the forecourt.
The workshop offers insight into a laborious old trade: under the smith's hammer, tools are made, and armor was even produced here. The museum is maintained by the City of Remseck am Neckar.
