About the museum
The Dorfmuseum Schönbach opened in 1993 and is part of the “Zeitzeugen” heritage trail. It is run by the Heimatverein Schönbach e. V. (local heritage association).
The exhibition presents objects from farming, forestry, crafts and household work and tells the history of the village. A special feature is the basket collection of Leipzig basket maker Otto Prischmann, with around 1,000 individual pieces. It is considered the second-largest coherent collection of its kind in Germany.
On display are, among other things, back-carrying baskets made of splints and willow, wicker strollers from around 1900, and Bähnert and balloon baskets from two centuries, made in Saxony, Thuringia, Franconia and Hungary, but also in China and Africa.
