Special exhibition
Exhibition at the Kur- und Stadtmuseum as part of the Tacheles 2026 programme, the Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony. On view from October 2026.
The Kur- und Stadtmuseum was founded in August 2007 as an institution of the town of Bad Lausick, on the initiative of the local history association, and opened on October 17, 2008. The association's members designed and set it up on a volunteer basis. The collecting behind it began systematically after the town hall fire of 1890, when a local history association was founded in 1897.
The museum is housed in a late Baroque townhouse dating from around 1780, considered one of the oldest in town. It was the home of the Koch family, with whom the history of the Gebrüder Koch plush factory began in 1838, and it later served, among other things, as a tobacco shop. The nearly derelict building was extensively renovated in 2006–2007; in 2023 the exhibition was redesigned with public funding.
On the first floor, the house gives an overview of the town's history, from the village of Lausigk to the spa town of Bad Lausick, and has a room for special exhibitions. On the second floor, rooms cover spa history, crafts and industry, school and association history, artists, and St. Kilian's Church, one of the oldest churches in Saxony to survive in its original form. A listening station lets visitors hear the Silbermann-Trampeli organ.
