About the museum
The collection of the village and school museum goes back to the early 1960s: the then headmaster Hermann Michaelsen (1904–1988) had pupils gather implements from agriculture, forestry, household and rural crafts that were in danger of being lost through modernization. In 1975 the collection received its own room in the old school building; since 1990 the museum has occupied the entire schoolhouse.
In 1983 the systematic identification and documentation of the holdings began, and in the same year the Förderverein (friends' association) was founded, which has cared for the museum on a volunteer basis to this day. Four themes shape the house: school, rural crafts, housework and women's work, and agriculture up to the early 20th century.
At the heart of the museum is history you can touch: a furnished classroom of the old village school, a fully equipped kitchen, historic clothing to try on, and tools to try out. The district of Ostholstein honored the museum with its cultural prize in 2007.
