About the museum
The Eisenbahnmuseum Stadtlohn commemorates the Nordbahn of the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (WLE), which from 1902 connected Borken, Ahaus, Burgsteinfurt and Vreden and also linked Stadtlohn to the rail network. Passenger services ended in 1975, the last freight train left the station in 1988, after which the tracks were removed.
The Eisenbahnclub Stadtlohn e. V., founded in 1985, set up a museum in the station's former goods depot in 1995, which is still run on a voluntary basis by the association's members. It is considered the only museum dedicated specifically to the WLE.
On display are photos and documents from the history of the line, tools and equipment of the track maintenance depot, uniforms and furnishings from railway operations, including a handcar and an electromechanical signal box. In the outdoor area stand a monument locomotive with passenger carriages, a level crossing barrier system, a water crane and several signals.
