About the museum
The foundation is the collection of Wilfried Rink, who over decades gathered advertising posters of railways from many countries. Parts of it were initially hung in Bonn in the offices of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, but were hardly accessible to the public there.
In 2013, Rink bought the reception building of Westerburg station and converted it room by room into a museum. The exhibition could be visited from May 2014, and the museum was officially opened on 15 May 2015. It is considered the first museum in Germany devoted entirely to the railway poster.
On three floors, posters are shown by theme and country, with a focus on Germany, France and Great Britain. In addition there are timetable books and international timetables, tickets and historic securities related to railways. Changing small themed displays complement the permanent exhibition. Right next door, the Westerwälder Eisenbahnfreunde look after the "Erlebnisbahnhof Westerwald" in the historic locomotive shed – together, the two pursue the goal of preserving the entire station complex as a museum.
