About the museum
The collection was established in 1957 at the initiative of the management of the Lauffen Portland cement works and now belongs to the plant of Märker Zement GmbH. It preserves finds that came to light during rock quarrying in the quarries of Lauffen and Neckarwestheim.
The rooms were redesigned in 1986 and reopened in 1987. At the center are large rock slabs from the Upper Muschelkalk with fully preserved sea lilies, as well as evidence of the Ice Age from the loess deposits of the quarries: mammoth tusks and bone fragments of steppe bison, woolly rhinoceros, wild horse and deer. The exhibition is supplemented by quartzite rocks from higher gravel deposits of the Urneckar (ancient Neckar).
