Explorado Abenteuermuseum

Hands-on museum for families in Troisdorf with over 100 stations on movement, technology, media and health – formerly a children’s museum in Duisburg.

Opening hoursAdmission €16.50 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The idea of a hands-on children’s museum modelled on American children’s museums was tested from 1996 at the Zeche Carl cultural centre in Essen and later continued in the Duisburg Inner Harbour. After the end of the Atlantis children’s museum and a Legoland Discovery Centre there, the Explorado opened on 8 June 2013 in the Werhahnspeicher in the Inner Harbour.

On three floors, children could build, experiment and explore everyday phenomena; in 2014 a record-breaking marble run almost 1.3 kilometres long was created. At the end of 2021 it became known that the museum would leave Duisburg.

Since October 2024 the Explorado has been located on the second floor of the MO.life leisure centre (formerly Happy Franky) in Troisdorf’s town centre. On roughly 3,000 m² it combines exhibits from Duisburg and from the closed Odysseum in Cologne, both of which were operated by the Cologne-based Explorado Group. New additions include digital play worlds, a roller disco and, in May 2026, the exhibition “Planet Gesundheit” (Planet Health) by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt and the Umweltbundesamt.

  • Over 100 hands-on stations on roughly 3,000 m²
