About the museum

The Fahrzeugmuseum goes back to the passion for collecting of the couple Kerstin and Ingo Schramm. Ingo Schramm gathered many of the pieces in the early 1990s, when vehicles and everyday objects from the GDR were being disposed of in huge numbers after reunification. In 2004 the Schramms showed their collection for the first time in an old manor house in Glöthe in the Salzlandkreis; what was initially planned as a temporary show became a permanent institution.

In 2014 the museum moved to Staßfurt into a former production hall for insulation boards, where about 1,600 square metres of exhibition space are available. Shown are mainly vehicles by East German manufacturers from seven decades: motorcycles by MZ and Simson, cars by Trabant, Wartburg and IFA, bicycles, scooters, prams, police and fire-brigade vehicles as well as curious home-built vehicles. A historically furnished workshop and changing thematic focuses complement the exhibition.

Permanent exhibition
