Feldbahnmuseum Oekoven
Association-run museum for field and industrial railways in Rommerskirchen with steam train rides on 600 mm gauge track on operating days from May to October.
About the museum
The Feldbahnmuseum in Rommerskirchen-Oekoven was founded in 1976 by private individuals. At the time, discarded narrow-gauge field railway vehicles were standing around in many companies, and some small steam locomotives even served as play equipment on playgrounds. Because the large technology museums showed little interest, the founders wanted to save these witnesses of transport and industrial history and show them in operation.
The museum is run by the association Feld- und Werksbahnmuseum Rommerskirchen-Oekoven, whose members do all the work on a volunteer basis. It is funded through tickets, membership fees, donations and the association's own bistro; the municipality, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, the LVR and the NRW-Stiftung provide support.
The collection concentrates on vehicles of 600 millimeter gauge from material transport, mining, light railways, construction sites, agriculture and military field railways. On a demonstration line, passenger trains run on operating days between the Neurather Feld station and the An der Lohe stop. A permanent exhibition in the new museum hall is being created step by step in themed islands, for example on the rubble railway of the postwar period and the military field railway.
