Kulturzentrum Sinsteden
Cultural center of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss on a four-sided farmstead with an agricultural museum and the Ulrich Rückriem Sculpture Halls, free admission.
About the museum
Because the Rhein-Kreis Neuss is strongly shaped by agriculture, the district council decided in 1989 to found an agricultural museum – at first without a building and without a collection. The district bought a dilapidated four-sided farmstead (Vierkanthof) from the 19th century with four hectares of land in Sinsteden and restored it bit by bit. Farmers and collectors from the region lent equipment; in 1993 a large storage hall was added, which was acquired in 2006.
The collection gained particular importance through the agricultural machinery manufacturer CASE IH, which after the closure of its Neuss plant in 1997 handed over historic tractors, harvesting machines, and the last tractor built there. In addition came the archive of the Rhenish cold-blood horse as a long-term loan and the archaeological collection of the municipality of Rommerskirchen with finds from a Roman villa estate.
Behind the farmstead the sculptor Ulrich Rückriem, together with the district and a savings bank foundation, had two plain white halls built, which opened in 1994 and permanently show his stone sculptures. The green space, co-designed by Rückriem, connects art and agriculture and has belonged to the European Garden Heritage Network since 2011. The program is complemented by annual art exhibitions, concerts, and a blues festival.
