About the museum

The town of Arnsberg opened its first fire service museum in May 1971 in a half-timbered house on the Schlossberg. After a renovation in 1990, the condition of the building worsened over the years, so a new location was sought.

At the same time, the association Arnsberger-Feuerwehr-Historie e. V., founded in 1996, assembled its own collection. The two holdings were finally merged: a former carpenter's workshop directly next to Arnsberg station was converted into a museum and opened at Pentecost 2012 as "Brennpunkt – Feuerwehrmuseum der Generationen." Since then the association has run the building on a volunteer basis.

The museum shows the development of fire protection from hand-operated pumps to motorized fire engines of various decades. Among the oldest pieces is a fire pump from Brunskappel dating from 1764. The vehicle collection is supplemented by uniforms, helmets and equipment of the fire departments of the region. In addition to regular museum operation on selected weekends, the association uses the building for tours for kindergartens and school classes, children's birthday parties and, more recently, as a wedding venue; the historic vehicles are also used for wedding rides.
