About the museum
Höllberghof was established from autumn 1991 as a pilot project, financed with subsidies from the state and federal government, above all by the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment. The aim was to rebuild a farmstead as it was typical around 1800 in the northwestern part of Lower Lusatia.
The buildings were erected step by step using traditional crafts, with wood, clay, stone, reeds and straw. Besides the three-sided farmstead, the complex includes a barn, a Kossätenhaus (cottager's house), a beehive stand, a pigeon stand house, a bakehouse and a day laborer's house. The interiors of the main house display furnishings and household equipment that show rural life some 200 years ago.
The farm also serves to preserve customs and as a research and environmental education site. With extensive pastures, meadows, wood pastures, heath and colorful grain fields, it aims to demonstrate "nature conservation through historic land use". The operator is the friends' association Förderverein Naturpark Niederlausitzer Landrücken e. V.
