About the museum
The Baroque preacher Abraham a Sancta Clara was born in 1644 as Hans Ulrich Megerle in Kreenheinstetten, in the "Zur Traube" inn run by his family. He joined the Discalced Augustinian order, became court preacher in Vienna, and, with his popular and linguistically powerful sermons, became a best-selling author. He died in Vienna in 1709.
In the historic parish barn next to the church and the monument, a literary memorial commemorates his path. It presents the key stages of his life in text and images, along with original prints from his lifetime, reprints, and pirated editions. A special item is the parish baptismal register with the entry for his baptism. For the 2009 anniversary year, the exhibition was expanded with a listening station featuring selected texts and new display cases.
