About the museum

The museum goes back to the association Oldtimer-Freunde Meßkirch und Umgebung, founded in 1992. In about seven years of their own labor, the members converted the former carriage house of the Meßkirch castle, the former horse and carriage stable, and opened their museum there in 1999. The building still belongs to the town; the association runs the museum on a volunteer basis; the vehicles on display belong to association members.

On the first floor there are automobiles from several decades, on the second floor motorcycles, the oldest of which date from around 1913. Special features include a Hanomag convertible from 1931, a Champion racing motorcycle from the 1930s and the Schakomobil built in 1957 with a plastic body.

A focus is the Veritas brand, which is closely tied to the town: former BMW employees began building racing and sports cars based on the BMW 328 in 1947 in nearby Hausen am Andelsbach and moved to Meßkirch in 1948. Until the early 1950s, Veritas cars won numerous victories and German championship titles, and road sports cars and convertibles were built later too. The museum shows rare Veritas models, including a Saturn coupé and a Skorpion convertible.
